Media
iKnow allows us to upload audio files which can be automatically shared to our Apple Podcasts stream.
Audio files are uploaded using the Media module, which we can access by clicking the icon in the menu.
Before we can add audio files, we need to create a new Stream and then add a new Series.
Add a Stream
To add a Stream, we need to click New Stream in the drop down menu on the left hand side. The details added in this section will be used in our Apple Podcasts stream and we will need to complete all of the fields, apart from the Keywords field. When we have completed all the details, we can click the Save & Exit button and the stream will be added to the drop down menu. If we need to make any changes to the Stream details, after saving, we can click the Settings button.
Add a Series
We are able to add a new Series by clicking the New Series button. We’ll need to give the Series a name, add a description and, if we like, we can add a series image. Complete the process by clicking the Save & Exit button. We will see the series listed below the Stream name. If we need to edit the Series details, click the Options button next to the Series name.
Add an Audio File
Once our Stream and Series have been created, we can add audio files to our Series by clicking the Media button alongside the Series name. To upload our media file, we will need to add a Title, at least one speaker, a date, duration and the long description. If any of these fields are not completed, we will not be able to save our audio file to the system.
When adding a Speaker, the speaker needs to be in the People module in iKnow. They could be added as Outer Church or Corporate which will mean we won’t be charged for them. When adding the duration, we will need to enter figures for hours, minutes and seconds.
To upload our audio file, we simply click Choose File. This will take us to our computer hard drive where we can locate and select our audio file. When the file has successfully uploaded, we will see the filename and size above the Choose File button. Click the Save & Exit button to complete the process.
To see a list of the audio files added to a Series, click the name of the Series listed under the Stream name. The files will be listed on the right. If we want to make any changes to the description, or change the file itself, we can click the spanner icon to the right of the file name. To delete a file from a Series, click the red dustbin icon.
Add to Apple Podcasts
To add our files to our Apple Podcasts stream, we will need to have an Apple Podcasts Connect account already set up.
We will need to log in to Apple Podcasts Connect and select the option to Add a New Show. Then, in the Show Type, we’ll need to select Add a Show with an RSS feed. The RSS Feed URL needs to be added next. We can obtain the feed URL from iKnow by clicking the Settings button. The URL can be found under iTunes Podcasts URL at the bottom of the Stream Editor window.
Copy and paste this URL into the form in Apple Podcasts and click Add, to create the link between iKnow and Apple Podcasts. Once the link is created, each time we add a new audio file to one of our series, it will automatically be uploaded to our Apple Podcasts feed.
